Banks Agree to Coronavirus Mortgage Relief in California

Mar 26, 2020

Yesterday it was announced that several major banks and credit institutions, including Wells Fargo, U.S. Bank, CitiBank and J.P. Morgan, have agreed to provide mortgage relief to California homeowners suffering financial hardship as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.  Eligible homeowners, including those who are sick from the virus, have lost their jobs or had their hours cut, will be able to defer their mortgage payments for at least 90 days, and any late payments will not be reported to credit agencies.   The banks and credit unions also agreed to a 60 day moratorium on foreclosures.  Homeowners who want to defer mortgage payments or have questions about foreclosures should contact their lender directly to find out if they are eligible.    At the time of this writing, Bank of America has agreed only to defer payments on a monthly basis until the crisis is over.  For more information, go to www.COVID19.CA.gov.
